Conventions C.A.R.E. Makes it Easy for Shows to Give Back
Through our Conventions C.A.R.E. Program (Community Assistance by Responsible Events), we stay green and give back to our community at the same time!
The program donates non-perishable items from convention center events to non-profit organizations throughout Boston. It’s offered both at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center (BCEC) and at the Hynes Convention Center.
The Conventions C.A.R.E. program was piloted during the Yankee Dental Congress of January 2010 at the BCEC. More than 1 ton of material--including 8,400 show bags, 2,746 toothbrushes, and 131 boxes of latex gloves--were donated to four local non-profits. It was estimated that the value of the Yankee Dental donations was worth more than $8,000.
The National Association of Chain Drug Stores donated 6.5 tons of consumer goods, which were dispersed to various charitable organizations throughout the Greater Boston Community. The donations ranged from cosmetics, health and hygiene products, food and beverage, and household supplies.
Orgill Fall Dealer Market exhibitors made the record-setting donation of 48 tones of products to Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston through the Conventions C.A.R.E. program. The donations included items such as tools, power equipment, lawn and garden suppliers, and outdoor furnishings.
How we execute events can have a serious impact on our environment and societies. We have a commitment to sustainable meetings and events and are proud to benefit organizations working to strengthen our communities. “The meeting and convention industry is often criticized for its wastefulness, so when it comes to running a convention center, being green means much more than recycling.” said James E. Rooney, executive director of the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.
How to participate? It’s easy! At the end of an exhibition, bright blue bins are spread around the show floor at Product Donation Stations.
By participating to Conventions C.A.R.E., you save the time and expense of shipping unneeded goods after a show ends. Not only are your materials put to good re-use, but you also cut back on your event’s environmental impact by diverting waste from local landfills.
Look for the blue bins at the end of your next Boston events!
